The music by Mr Adamson on this recording has more to do with the creation of tone poems of the Richard Strauss-like kind. The colours and textures that are evoked by piano, brass and woodwinds are culled from a sonic palette that is rich, and makes the sonic poetry of this music vivid and quite absorbing.....a finely played programme that can be recommended with absolute confidence.
Solos on open trumpet and tenor sax drive the music forward, as Taylor’s drumming becomes increasingly frenetic (he also plays a lively solo) – it’s a powerhouse performance by the band...a very enjoyable album from a talented group of musicians.
The job the Andy Adamson Queintet did for my event was really impressive, and Andy was very fun to work with. I think the secret behind their success is that they love what they're doing, so that energy really comes our in the music.
